Coconut site: Back of Joshua's yard.
GPS location: 8 62715 S, 142 05134 E.
Interviewer: Joshua (Wenembu)
In counting children, she went down to her big toe (right foot?) for the last one - 11th?.
At some point she is asked about a date, doesn't know the answer, and a person nearby writes it on the ground (photographed), which Joshua (Wenembu) then voices.
Also at one point she mentions Suki and points SE (southeast) - this is metonymic, pointing to where the pastors live who were trained in Suki; Suki itself lies to the NW (northwest).

Very nice interview, concludes with brief discussion of the circumstances of Kandr's exchange (i.e., she was a karata trp, given in exchange by her father for his wife since he had no sister). General interview in the old quarter of Tubegu, which was a sort of mini-village just north of the creek on the Mär road, where people lived after the village moved to Bimadbn. Description
Coconut site: Planting of new coconut in Nick Evans' yard (in the direction of their village of Derideri) by Qanama as part of the equivalent of a tab zi to express a wish that a linguist come and document their language. Nambo language responses, interview questions in Nen. Interesting for its real depiction of the sorts of appeals and incantations that accompany the planting of a coconut. Concludes by asking his sister Prnda, resident in Bimadbn, to look after and water the coconut so that it will grow, and uses the metaphor of the coconut growing slowly and eventually bearing fruit to implant the idea of a long-term dictionary project. Despite Qanama's expressed concern for the purity of Nambo, he frequently mixes in Nama to his speech and the other men with him frequently prompt or correct him to a 'purer' usage. Following Qanama, both WIlliam and Prnda make shorter addresses, also in Nambo.
GPS location of coconut tree: 8 62985 S, 142 05069 E.

Coconut site: In yard of elementary school. The GPS reading is taken on one of a group of four coconuts which G̅anio planted together in the school yard (photo illustrates all four). Fasawr only switched her sound recorder on halfway through, so need to use Tano's whole version. Poor interviewing by Fasawr. First in Nmbu, then in Nen. Short supplementary recording by Nick Evans adds information about how she chopped down some old copra coconut trees which old people had planted but which the village does not use, to plant coconuts for local consumption instead.

Coconut site: In back of house. The coconut Aosa Yun talked about were too far for her to walk to, a bit to the east, so she is sitting at the foot of another coconut. Interview is a bit quiet but OK as a representation of old women's speech. Mostly in Nmbo (Q and A), her mother tongue, since she says she has forgotten how to speak Nen, except for swear words.

In addition to various standard interviews, two opportunistic recordings were made: some basic words and phrases in Bituri (filed in separate folder 'Bituri'), from Sibia Penak from Upiara - enough to show its related ness to Marind, cf, anema 'man', anuma 'woman', anima 'people'; masiga anema 'good man', masigu anuma 'good woman', masimsi anima 'good people', also agreement on verb: naraterena 'he is speaking', nara turena 'she is speaking', nara tiremana 'they are speaking'. Plus a sound recording from Goi about the plant wawr and its use in making spinning tops.

This is a short interview made by Nick Evans at the small hamlet of Zeri, including statements about coconut trees by the person who planted them. Corresponding video files exist for most of the interviews (though most were shot by Michael Binzawa, shooting for the first time, and are of poor quality with regards to sound and camera angle); the relevant primary notes are in NS2014a:35-49.

Coconut site: Wagra Karwai (Carua), an Äkämär man who lives in Gubam as part of a Karata trip arrangement, in his yard. Bebek (Yosang's baba) joins in to explain in a mixture of Nen and Nambu (though others try shutting him up), then Gima, then Bebek again. Interesting life story, including reading from Motu Bible and talking about learning Motu as a young man working on rubber plantations elsewhere which is where he learned Motu. At the end his wife is asked how she feels about having stayed in her own village and talks in Nambu. Wagra comes from the Qandara clan, which his son belongs to (in swamp area near Mär).

Description
Mgam Greh gives a short metalinguistic discussion, mostly in Nen but also in English and a bit of Idi, giving examples of words which are pronounced the same in Idi and Nen but have different meanings. (Nicholas Evans' notes: Likely not to be full L1 speaker because grew up in Dimsisi but I couldn't hear obvious differences; needs checking). Goi Dibod comes in on the end of the discussion with another example, extending the range of examples to Nambu as well.
This is a short interview made by Nicholas Evans in Dimsisi. The relevant primary notes are in NS2014a:23-27 37.972.

Description
Because Yayam comes from Bebdeben, the opportunity was taken to interview her with her countrymen present, getting her to tell the story of how her son captured a young wild pig for them to raise. Interviewed by Tano. Very lively interview and story, first in Nambu, then in Nen. Video recordist: Jimmy Nébni. Interview in front of their pig pen. During (initial) Nambu version, she occasionally lapsed into Nen but each time was urged to stick to Nambu by the audience. Intersting because of the way she has quite different relisations of questions vs kw as between Nen and Nambu. Also lots of interesting questions and answers about pigs.
This is a short interview made by the Kiembtuwirer subcommittee of the Nen language committee, under Nick Evans' supervision. The Kiembtuwirer subcommittee comprises Warapa Wlila, Sarao, Rusien Aniba, and Fasawar. Jimmy Nébni was also present. People present: Fasawr, Rusien, Jimmy Nébni, Michael Binzawa, Warapa. Because Eri Kashima and some member of the Nmbu language committee were visiting, as well as four speakers of Nambo, the opportunity was taken to record extra material on these language, deviating from the regular schedule.

This is a series of training sessions made by the Seregu subcommittee of the Nen language committee, under Nick Evans' supervision. The Seregu subcommittee comprises Goi Dibod, Mary Dibod, Zerus Kaeko; Doreen Wenembu is also a member but was absent on 20140926 and was replaced by Songa Dibod and his wife Srgo. Jimmy Nébni was also present (also joined for part of it by Daniel Gubae).
The files are from training sessions where each was learning how to operate the recording equipment and carry out the interviews. The videos are very chaotic and only included because there is some relevant background conversation and joking. The practice interviews were only recorded on the Zoom sound recorder. The most interesting pair are those between Goi and his sister-in-law Srgo. When Goi interviews Srgo he uses Nen and she answers in Idi (first version), then there is a second version, a rerun, where she answers in Nen. Then the tables are turned and she asks him questions in Idi and he responds in Nen.
