Description

Wanji-wanji project Sunday 29th September 2019 at Pipilyatjara Interview with Thomas Murray (Ngaatjatjara man). Recorded by Myfany Turpin and Beth Sometimes (interpretor) Thomas's wife was also there but she didnt contribute much. Thomas described the dancing as 'line up' He remembered it from Laverton as a young man. He had heard it before in the bush north of Mantu Maru (Jamieson) as a child. See my fieldnotes that accompany the recording. He worked on Barwiji station, Indarindra Station, Handel station and seemed to remember it there. He mentioned Munkarra Nguru. Not sure if that is a place name. Talked to Pantjiti McKenzie about ICTV and showed everyone the video. They all mentioned 'Tjardiwanpa' - we not sure if it is a different ceremony (perhaps popular at the same time - although note some people said 'Jardiwanpa came after', or a generic for a song style.
