Description

There are 9 video files included in this deposit. They were recorded by Margaret Carew at Gochan Jiny-jirra outstation (also called Cadell), in May 2018. The performances were associated with a funeral for Mick Marrawa England of the An-nguliny clan, along with a second funeral held simultaneously for a baby. Mick's brother Allen Milyerr England led the performance of the ganyjal 'eel tailed catfish' manikay which involved a procession of dancers. There was also a performance of Ana-gujalala manikay led by Steven Dennis with lead dancers Gahwun and Blake Carter. There is a recording of an action dance performed by young women to prerecorded music. The singer on the prerecorded track is Allen Milyerr England. We stopped filming of the final part of the ceremony at the family's request.
