Description

Recordings made by anthropologist Craig Elliott who lived at Galawdjapin and Garttji in the late 1980s. Item includes photographs of original tape. Tape notes say: Joe Goidarri [Gidarri] monologue of Bulman Journey. Margaret Carew has created an eaf annotation file and segmented the speech. Gidarri's monlogue goes for about 50 minutes. There is at least one other speaker present (apart from Elliott) and this consociate backchannels, asks some questions and suggests some recount topics. The recording begins as a travelling narrative, recounting travel and listing many place names along the route to Bulman. The speaker then recounts hunting experiences involving buffalo shooting and catching other game including goannas and fish. Transcription is in progress (23 April 2018). The narrative is noteworthy for the rich use of ideophones to represent impacts and other actions as part of recounting spearing and shooting animals.
