Description

Anna Dagui (ad), Matthew Kaitib (mk) and Augusta Silim (as) are all speakers of Manam. The women both married men from Matukar, although at different periods. Anna is married to John Bogg and is most often called 'Nen Manamuk' or 'Manamuk' by others. Augusta married Silim Baug, who has passed away. Matthew, also called 'Manti', has a mother (Elisabeth Kaitib) from Manam who is the sister of the women's father (Peter Dagui). Matthew's mother married a man from Matukar (Joe Kaitib). Joe Kaitib is the elder brother of Dui Kaitib. Anna, Matthew and Augusta take turns recounting Manam customs, which are much stronger than Matukar customs. They speak in Mamam as another person translates into Tok Pisin for the other after each sentence.
