Description

Typescript (carbon). (Paton's PhD thesis). In addition to introducing material, the work is in independent sections, each with self-contained page numbering, viz. -- Tales of Ambrym pp 1-50 -- Customs of Ambrym pp 1-72 -- Ambrym Grammar pp 1-74 -- Dictionaries -- English-Ambrym (2 dialects) pp 1-63 -- Ambrym-English pp 1-207 -- Note: Sections of Paton's thesis have been published in revised form (cf Pacific Linguistics). It is too large to copy into the computerised database, but will be lodged at the National Library of Australia's archive as part of the Capell Papers. It was originally submitted for the award of D. Litt at an unspecified British university. The correspondence is copied and cross-referenced. Peter J.F. Newton. Date of recording estimated at 1950's. The description is "The language and life of Ambrym". The Region is Ambrym and Paama of Malampa Province, North Vanuatu. The multiple languages involve six (6) languages namely; Ambym, North (mmg), Ambrym, Southeast (tvk), Lonwolwol (crc), Daakaka (bpa), Port Vato (ptv), Paama (pma) of Malampa Province, North Vanuatu. The actual languages and codes replaces the multiple languages and undetermined language in Content and Subject languages with codes 'mul' and 'und'. (Steven Gagau, April 2018)
