Description

12 page manuscript -- 36 comparative word lists for languages in the 'East and South Divisions, Papua', together with a note headed 'The Melanesian languages of Papua' which outlines sounds and phonetic changes. Not in Capell's hand.; Date of recording unknown. The languages from East and South Divisions in Papua represent Central (South) and Milne Bay (East) provinces which cover up to 85 languages in this region. Based on the manuscripts some approximate actual languages or inferred languages are identified in the multiple languages of this collection. There could be more to be identified. The Map has been redefined the Map to Central and Milne Bay provinces as East and South divisions of Papua. (Steven Gagau, April 2018)
