Description

Discussing the Nakanamanga alphabet and investigating the phoneme inventory. The words being tested were selected from Nguna dictionary (Schmidt, 2023) and existing wordlists for Nafsan and Lelepa (Billington, unpublished manuscript). Vowel length was examined, and consonants are investigated in word initial and medial positions, adjacent to open central vowel when possible.

Description

Four pairs of consonants exhibit mutation between indicative and imperative: /p, f/, /r, t/ /d,t/, /kΝ‘p, w/. The manner of articulation of the rhotic and the relationship between the coronal consonants requires closer investigation.
