Description

Laura Dimock, Emily Greenbank, Leina Isno and Elizabeth Pearce Ninde, also traditionally known as Mewun or Meaun (Lynch and Crowley 2001: 73), is spoken in southwest Malakula, Vanuatu, principally in the villages of Labo, Lawa and Wintua. Ninde is spoken by around 1,100 people (Clark 2009: 39). The data for this sketch was supplied by Leina Isno, a native speaker of Ninde, in an Honours Field Methods class at Victoria University of Wellington in 2007 and in subsequent interviews. Leina lived in Lawa until the age of eight, then moved to Wintua where she finished primary school. She subsequently left Malakula to attend high school, and she currently resides in New Zealand.
