Description

This string figure represents lightning and thunder, the elements that feature in most mythologies. It is one of the Awiakay string figures that invite the use of onomatopoeic expressions, in this case tsiŋ-paa! representing lightning (tsiŋ) and thunder (paa!). Even shy performers utter 'tsin-paaa!' very loudly while moving the final design between the one representing the lightning and the other representing thunder. Images: 02: ‘thunder’ 03: ‘lightning’
