Description

Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I am going to tell is about how people started dying after getting burnt in a fire. Once upon a time, there were Nga Danhkang (the one who takes care of fish) and Yu Danhkang (the one who takes care of rats) in a village. The deity said the people to find and eat rats and fish. Then, a man called Mauhte did exactly as Deity said. He went fishing and finding rats. He went across the bridge. When Mauhte went across the bridge, Yu Danhkang and Nga Danhkang knew where to find rats and fish. They knew Mauhte would cross this brigde when he went back home. So, they bent the bamboos from the inside. When Mauhte went over the bamboo bridge after he had caught some fish and rats, the bridge was broken and he fell into the water. He was floating along the river. And there were people called Wa Hku Kan Sha in the downstream area. They were building a dam. Mauhte reached to the place where they were building a dam. They saved him. They took him to the shed where they lived. And they built a fire and let him sit next to the fire because he was wet. After some time, he fell asleep. And all of his clothes were dry. Soon, his clothes caught fire. Then, the shed where he was building a fire caught fire too. He quickly tried to extinguish the fire. He hardly put out the fire. Then, he went to another place. He went to Sut Du village. (Sut Du means lots of properties or wealthy.) He reached to a rich man's house. Although the fire from the shed was put out, it still followed Mauhte. Then, when Mauhte got to the rich's home, it caught fire and was burned down. Every where Mauhte went, every place was burned. It was because the fire followed Mauhte. When the rich man's house was burned down, three people also died in the fire. Since then, people started dying after getting burnt in a fire.
