Description

Translation (Htoi San) There was a widow and her child a long time ago. One day, they had nothing to cook, so they went out to look for food in the jungle. They reached the confluence, junction of Nmai stream and Mali stream. The mother and her child walked along the river the whole day. They got to the junction of Nmai stream and Mali stream in the afternoon, where they had their lunch and left the place after eating. They thought the minor rivers would meet, so one went to Nmai stream. Another went up to Mali stream. They walked on their own way along the small river as they thought the rivers would cross at one place until sunset. They were far apart, and they did not meet each other until darkness came. The mother thought, "Where is my child?" The child also thought, "Where is my mother?" Then the mother called, "Sha I! Sha I!" Her child also cried out, "Nu I! Nu I!" On that day onwards, the baby cicada called out, "Hkra I! Hkra I!" and they got the name "Sha I". Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi gaida yen nu shan nu nga ai da.
