Description

Translation (Seng Pan) This story is about a knowledgeable teacher. A long time ago, there lived two young men in a village. They were eager to learn. And they heard about a man of wisdom. So, they planned to go to the wise man and started their journey. When they had arrived at the wise man's place, they were warmly welcomed and trained well by the wise man. They asked permission to return home from their master since they thought they had learnt enough. The wise man also permitted them to go back home. When they returned home, it was getting dark before they reached their village. Therefore, they planned to stay a night in the village. Many village girls came to them with a lot of food and things. At night, the girls said, "Since you learnt a lot from the man of wisdom, let us ask something. We have fifteen husbands. They have been travelling by ship for trading. They told us that they would come back after one month. It has been already a month, and they haven't returned yet. Do you know why?" One of the men didn't consider carefully and answered, "All your husbands were already dead. Only three of them will come back. The rest were dead since their ship was tipped over." Next, the girls asked the second man. "All your husbands are alive. Since they could sell a lot of things, they delayed returning home. During these two or three days, they would arrive back," the second man answered. So, the village girls waited for two, three days. All the husbands certainly arrived back home. Then, the village girls said to the first man, "You lied to us!" They kicked him out of the village. But his friend, the second man, took care of him and spoke to him well. Then the first man said, "Master taught you well, but he didn't share me all." And he got angry at his master. "No. You didn't consider well before you spoke. That's the reason," the second man replied. "Then, let's go back to master and ask the answer," the first man said. Then his friend also agreed and returned to their master. When they arrived at the man of wisdom, they told their master what had happened in the village and asked, "Master. Which one of us was given all your wisdom?" The wise man replied, "Ok! I will tell you about it tomorrow. Sleep well tonight. Go and intercept the snow tomorrow early morning!" The next morning, the two men left the house by carrying a bucket each. The clever man brought a towel, and used it to collect the snow. The snow melted and the towel absorbed the liquid. After it, the man squeezed the liquid out of the towel into the bucket. He did it till the bucket was full of liquid. When the sun came out, the snow became like the water, and the man got a bucket of snow water. Since the second man was lazy, he just collected the snow on the leaves. Although he had put a lot of snow into the bucket, it melted when the sun rose. But his snow water only reached half of the bucket. And they went back to their master. Their master said, "I shared two of you the same knowledge. But the one who didn't listen closely always faces failures." The message of this story is that you have to use your brain to live although you have learnt a lot.
