Description

Translation (Seng Pan) The story I will tell you is about Ma Kaw (the eldest daughter) and Ma Lu (the second daughter). Once upon a time, there were Ma Kaw and Ma Lu. And there was also a son of a very wealthy man. Ma Kaw and Ma Lu competed in cutting the rice since they were told that the one who could cut more rice could marry the rich man's son. On those days, the grooms had to be paid the dowry. So, the two sisters, Ma Kaw and Ma Lu, tried hard in order to get him. Since Ma Lu got so tired, she sat down under the tree by making a sound, "Du Duu Du". Then, the eldest daughter, Ma Kaw, felt annoyed and pressed her. Therefore, Ma Lu died there. Afterwards, Ma Kaw married the son of the rich man. While they were having a meal, the soul of Ma Lu came and sat down on the tree near them. Ma Lu made a sound, "Du Du Du. Hai Lawk". What she wanted to mean by Hai Lawk was that it was shameless her sister, Ma Kaw, killed her. Transcription (Lu Hkawng) Ya ngai hkai na maumwi gaw ma kaw hte ma lu na lam re.
