Description

Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Once upon a time, there was an old couple in a village. They didn't have any children. They had only animals to help them. They sold goods by carriage. They had horses too. They ploughed the farm with buffaloes. They let the dogs watch their farm. And they raised the chicken and pigs too. One day, there was a pandemic in that village. Most of the animals were infected and died. Some animals were seriously sick. Then, the couple discussed what they should do. They said, "Since we work mainly with these animals, we can't let them get infected and die. Let's build a place for all of our animals and put them there." Then, they built a place for the animals in the forest and put the animals there. On their way back home, they met a man with a steel helmet. He asked them, "Where did you come back from?" They said, "There is a pandemic in our village. Since we rely on our animals for our lives, we are afraid that they might get infected. So, we move our animals to the place in the forest." Then, the man gave his hat to the old man. The old man saw that his animals were near to them. Even though he put the animals deep in the forest, he could see his animals. The man told them, "If you don't want your animals to get infected, I can protect your animals. I will come and visit your house tomorrow. Treat some delicious meals to me." The old couple believed him. The next day, they cooked some tasty meals and waited for him. But he didn't show up. In fact, that was not a pandemic. Since human beings were getting wealthy, the evil nat spirits felt jealous. So, they tried to kill all the animals. So, we should keep in mind that it is because of the evil spirits when the pandemic happens. Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi da kahtawng langai mi kaw e gumgai dingla yen nga ma ai da.
