Description

Translation (Seng Pan) This is about Hkrai Naw (Hkrai is the family name, and Naw refers to the second-born son), and Hkrai Gam (Gam refers to the first-born son). Once upon a time, a mythical serpent transformed himself into a human form and married a woman. And they had got two mythical serpent eggs. The mythical serpents said, "When they crack, look after them well." Soon, the two eggs cracked, and two baby boys were born. They were Ma Gam and Ma Naw. When the two boys got older, they asked the mother to show them their father. But the mother never said any clues. "Don't ask me anything! Go and do smithing!" the mother said. So, the two brothers worked the blacksmiths near a river. The mythical serpent heard the noise of smithing from the water and got a headache. So, the mythical serpent said to the crab, "The smell of iron is so strong. Go up and say them not to do smithing there." When the crab went near the boy and said what the mythical serpent ordered, the boys picked it with the hot tongs. Therefore, the crabs turn red when they are cooked. The shrimps are also the same. A shrimp was also asked to go to the boys. It was picked up with the hot tongs as well. So, when we cook the shrimps, their color turns red. Next, Uhtang fish (it's a kind of carp and its mouth is angled upward) was asked to go to the boy again. The fish was hit with an iron harpoon. Therefore, the Uhtang fish's mouth became angled upward.
