Description

Translation (Mike Tu Awng) Long time ago in Northern, Hkahku, part of the country, there were Hkunru men who were very good at telling lie, and good at making friends. One morning, there were four, five, six Hkunru men were standing in front of a house and were tellng things casually. One man was staring at the ground. What he saw was like grey chicken poop from a hatching hen. He thought it was a chicken poop but it was round as if someone had made it on purpose. Thus, he touched it and picked it up from the ground. When he picked it up, it was quite heavy. He said, "This looks like a chicken poop but it is quite heavy. What could it be? I thought it was a chicken poop." Then, the other man said, "Let me see it." He got it in his hand and said, "There is no chicken poop as heavy as this. Especially dried chicken poop is not heavy like this." They were discussing. Then, the other man said, "Let me see it." He got it in his hands and said, "This is a lead cannonball used by hunters when they shoot big deer. There is still a strong smell of gun powder", he said. Then, the other man said again. "Let me see it again." So, he held it in his hands again. They were passing that from one person to another. At that moment one man said, "This is a bullet for shooting deer dropped from hunters' bags." One man said, "Let me hold it again." When he held it in his hand, he commented, "This is nothing. This is a chicken poop from a hatching hen." As he was saying that he dropped it to the ground. In reality, that was a gold ball. They had not seen gold much. What they had seen in the past was chicken poop. Because of limitation in their knowledge, they were lucky to have that gold but unlucky enough not to have known it. That's why there is a saying in Kachin, "It is difficult for the one who does not have, but it is more difficult with the one who does not know." It was said that it was more difficult with the one who didn't know. Thus, we need to do research or inquiry in anything. If not, this is a story to remind us that we could lose.
