Description

Translation (Mike Tu Awng) Long time ago, there were two cows. There were two cows and their owner always let them worked. The owner let them carried things on their back. They were both very pitiful. One evening, they came back from a paddy field. They were pulling a cart when they were coming back from the paddy field. When they were on the way home, they saw another cow at a house on the way. The cow they saw was a happy cow and said to them. That cow was very fat and very beautiful, too. That cow said to them, "You two are so pitiful. I feel pity for the both of you. You two are so exhausted, look at your hands, your body and your face. You two look so pale. You two do not have nutritious food to eat. It continued, "Look at me, I have nutritious food, I don't need go anywhere, and I do not need to do anything. My owner is a very good owner. I feel pity for the both of you." The two replied by saying that they wanted to be like him, and like to stay like him, but their owner was very cruel and unkind. They said, "Our master always asks us to do work." The other cow said to them, "Well, you two better go to work now. You will not have happy days like me." Then it went away so as the two cows continued their way. After a few days passed, the two cows worked hard as usual. Then, one day, the two of them were on the way back from paddy field. When they passed the house, they noticed that there was a gathering, there was a sacrificial offering. When they heard the chanting of the sacrificial rites, they went to see from outside the fence. Then, they saw that the fat and beautiful cow they talked to a few days back was being sacrificed. As they were looking at the event, they said to one another, "It is good that the two of us are working. We don't need to die early." They realized that the owner kept that cow fat and beautiful to kill it like this. They realized that those who stay too happy die early. They felt sorry for what they had said about their owner being cruel and unkind. From that day on, they both worked hard in the field. Transcription (Lu Awng) Moi shawng e da i dumsu nga ai da.
