Description

Translation (by Rita Seng Mai) A long time ago, there were two men in a village. They were exhausted after working hard the whole day. So they rested for a while and slept. One of the men kept sleeping for a long time. The other man woke up and he was thinking why his friend slept for a long time. He was wondering why. Then suddenly, it started to rain. He was on this side of stream and his friend was on the other side. He was sitting just beside the stream while his friend was sleeping under the hut. At that time, he saw that one caterpillar was trying hard to cross the stream. He was surprised by looking at that caterpillar trying hard to cross the stream and he even forgot to sleep again. Soon, the rain was falling again and the strong wind was blowing. At that moment, one carriage wheel was floating through the stream. It seemed like there wasn't a heavy rain on the other side of the stream. Then that carriage wheel was blocked the two sides of the stream. Meanwhile, the caterpillar was still trying so hard to cross the stream. No matter how many times and how hard it tried, it failed to cross the stream. Then it saw that carriage wheel. It climbed on that and walked past. It kept walking slowly. Then it climbed on his friend and went into his friend's nostril while he was looking at it. Suddenly, his friend sneezed and woke up. His friend felt itchy since a caterpillar went into the nostril. He was shocked and scared when he saw that. So he told other people what he saw. When he told about his friend to the other people, they said that his friend had Sumbra Hpyi (witch or evil spirit which form is like a caterpillar). His friend told him that he dreamt while he was sleeping. His friend told him, "My friend, I dreamt a dream while I was sleeping there. In my dream, I was trying to climb up the pit but I couldn't climb up and kept falling. I was exhausted. Then I saw a long stick and I tried so hard to climb up there. At last, I could climb up the stick." He thought there was something strange with his friend. He kept asking the other people why. Finally he got to know that his friend had got Sumbra Hpyi.
