Description

Translation (Lazing Htoi San) Now I am telling the story about, "The fortune teller." A long time ago, there was a man who could read the fortune in a village. All his readings always came true, and whatever he said happened. And there was another man, who lived in the down part of the village, did not believe that fortune teller. "That man" (the second man) mocked the fortune teller as he told what he already knew from the beginning, and all the words he said were not from his predictions. His wife told that man, "Don't say anything. He does what he knows and for his living." That man replied, "If so, I will go and ask him. I will test him." The wife said, "Don't try him! He is an expert in this field, and he knows for sure." That man insisted and said, "I will test, I will test him how much he knows." Then he went up the village. That man went up the village and met the fortune teller. Even though he knew that man came to test him, he greeted him, "What do you want to say?" That man asked, "Hey, friend, what kind of curry am I going to eat this morning?" The fortune teller knew that man came to investigate him and replied, "You have a fate that you will have to lick your wife's groin." That man angrily said, "Crazy man, why are you saying that to me like that?" and he furiously went down to his home. While his wife was cooking rice, he got home exasperatedly. He sat beside his wife and told her, "This man talked to me like that. These words should not come out of his mouth, and I was so angry and so on." His wife snatched him back, "That's why I told you not to try him. He is a professional in his work. Now it is good because you don't want to listen to me." That man outraged his wife not to talk, and he hit her with his fist. But it thumped inside of his wife's pants. After taking out his fist and rubbing on the tripod where his wife put the hot rice pot, he felt burnt and licked his hand. It happened as the fortune teller predicted. That's why he had occurred exactly and had to lick as the fortune teller told. Transcription (Lu Awng) Ya ngai hkai na maumwi gaw shaba wawt sha ai la wa a lam re ai.
