Description

Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story I'm going to tell is about why a dog hadn't got any horns now. The dog had got horns in the past. The dog just went around the village and spent its time. But the dog was so hyperactive and mischievous. It was a glutton. It was greedy too. It always found its food and ate. While it was eating its food, it took its horns off and put them in a shady nook. In the past, they could take their horns off the same as we use wig now. Same like we can take the wig off easily. It always ate its food after taking its horns off. But then, the goat didn't have any horns in the past. A goat just lived without having horns in the past. The goat thought if it had got horns, it could fight against its enemies. Then it wanted to have horns severely. But only the dog had got horns, the goat didn't have any. In the past, people used hand-mills to husk grain. There had lots of grain brans too after they had husked. And those grain brans were so delicious and sweet. The dog dissatisfied eating those brans from the top of the mill. It wanted to eat from the bottom since it was too greedy in eating. So it took its horns off and put them somewhere. It couldn't remember its horn, and it only focused on eating. But the goat was prowling the dog because it wanted to steal the horns of the dog. The dog was licking the bran inside the mill. While the dog was devouring brans, the goat stole the horns. Since then, the dog couldn't find its horns anywhere even though it was looking for them continuously. So the dog had become the animal which didn't have horns. Transcription (Lu Awng) Ya tsun na lam gaw gwi rung ntu mat ai lam hpe maumwi hpe tsun dan na re.
