Description

Translation (by Rita Seng Mai) KK1-0698-A I'm going to tell about how Kachin people had been infected by witchcraft. This is how it started. There lived two brothers called Du Nau Gam and Du Nau Naw in this human world. Tne day they caught a vulture which lived in a big nest in jungle. They killed that vulture and human beings ate its meat. Since then, people have been affected by witchcraft. KK1-0698-B This is about how human has been cursed by Nats (evil spirit). When a dead vulture fell from the sky, human beings ate that dead vulture hungrily. Many wounds, bumps or lumps appeared on the skin of people who ate eyes of dead vulture. They often had eye pain after they had eaten it. People who ate legs of dead vulture had been cursed or captured by Munju Nat. Starting from that event, devilry of Nats affected on people. We, Kachin people, have been affected by Nats because of eating the meat of dead vulture. And there grew a big and tall mushroom on the place where the vulture fell. That mushroom was 16.5 metres tall. Then, people from this human world ate that big and tall mushroom. People who ate cap of that mushroom thought that it would be more delicious to eat stalk of the mushroom than the cap and vice versa. They were displeased with that and grew feeling of hate on each other. People who ate stalk of mushroom thought that even stalk was really delicious, then there was no way the cap of that mushroom wouldn't be delicious. It is said that starting from that time, we, humans, couldn't trust each other well and have doubts on each other.
