Description

Translation (Htoi Awng) I want to tell you about how the rainbow came to be. Long time ago, there were an elderly bachelor and a spinster in a village. They were destined and got married. Then, they got a baby boy. The husband was very talented in hunting. When he dried the meat, he told the wife, "Don't eat this. We have an infant. We have to feed him." But, she was craving for that dried meat. So, she sneaked a little amount of it and grilled it. Then, she ate it secretly. When her husband came back, he told her angrily, "I told you not to eat and this is for our baby. Why did you eat that?" She said, "Although I ate it, it is the same as our baby ate that." Her husband said, "No! I don't believe you. If you say that it is the same as our baby ate that, it is impossible. How could he eat that? It's you who ate that!" Then, she said, "If you don't believe, just cut my breast and check it out." So, he cut his wife's breast. Then, his wife died. There was the meat she ate in her breast. He regretted it and was embarrassed. And he died too. After his wife had died, she had become a rainbow. There was a shadow behind the rainbow. That is the husband. He stood behind her since he felt ashamed. Transcription (Lu Awng) Ya ngai tsun mayu ai gaw n-goi latum ganing rai na byin wa ai lam hpe tsun dan mayu ai re.
