Description

Translation (Rita Seng Mai) The story is about food. Nangbya was a man who could lie to other people. One day, the weather was hot while he was at his field. So, he was taking a rest under the tree. Near him, there were two doves fighting against each other. They pecked fiercely. Even their feathers were fallen out from their bodies. Their fierce fighting continued for long hours. The fire was lit by touching against their bones. The whole field was on fire. But Nangbya didn't do anything and just watched the whole situation. The bottle gourd he hung on the tree was burnt too. But water inside it was still there. He said to himself, "Hmm, my bottle gourd is burnt!" He drank the water inside it because he was thirsty. At that moment, a bee was resting on his leg. He caught it and ate it. And he said, "I am so tired now. I will go back home along this stream." He picked up a walking stick and walked along the stream. He saw many fish were jumping out of water. So, he caught them and put them in his bag. He said, "I have got a lot. I will cook them with bamboo shoots and fern." And he saw something with a round and curly shape inside the bush. So, he grabbed it. It was actually a peafowl. He was glad and said, "I get more and more. Now, I have fish and peafowl. I should tie them tightly and take them to home. I need a vine then." Then, he grabbed a vine. In fact, it was a monkey! Nangbya said, "I get more and more." He said, "I feel like I can tell lies to everyone. Everyone falls for my lies too." He laughed and went back home. Transcription (La Ring) Nambya maumwi re ndai sha hpa hta sha hpa mi lu ngu ai maumwi re.
