Description

Translation (Seng Pan) This is about a barking deer and Indian gooseberries. Long ago, a hungry barking deer had roamed around the whole day to find food. It was so hot on that day. So, he got some rest under an Indian gooseberry tree. It had fruited many Indian gooseberries. Even though he had never tried Indian gooseberries before, he hit the tree with his horn. Then so many Indian gooseberries fell down. And he ate one as he was starved. But it tasted astringent. Since he had got terrible taste when he was so hungry, he got angry. "I will not eat this kind of fruit even when I am struck by lightning," he threatened. As the fruit tasted astringent, he went and drunk water from a stream near the tree. After he drunk a sip of water, he got a wonderful sweet taste which he had never tasted before. He was so fond of the taste. Therefore, he went back to the tree to have more Indian gooseberries. As he ate the fruit, he was struck by the lightning. It hit on his forehead. Therefore, a scar has remained on the barking deer's forehead till now.
