Description

Translation (Seng Pan) The story is about cat and wild cat. I will tell this story in two versions. The first one is why cat and wild cat cannot be together. Long ago, a cat and a wild cat lived together. One evening, the wild cat said, "Friend, we have meat for dinner. Go and fetch fire from the village! We need to cook the meat." So, the cat went to a widow's house to fetch the fire. There he saw the stick rice which was put out to dry to make rice wine. He ate the sticky rice. As he had a lot, he was so full and couldn't get up. At home, the wild cat had been waiting for him long time but he did not go back to him. That's why the wild cat railed at the cat that wherever I found you, I would kill and sit on you until you die. From that day on, their friendship was ended. Therefore, if the wild cat sees the cat nowadays, he kills him because he didn't fulfil his work to fetch fire. On the other hand, as the cat ate the sticky rice a lot, he didn't want to see it and hasn't had it anymore from that day on. Transcription (Lu Awng) Nyau hte hkan a maumwi hkai na re.
