In the first episode the jackal convinces the bear not to eat him, but to become his friend, he then shows the bear where a dead ox is, and gets him to carry it back. Then the jackal tricks the bear into killing himself by breaking open a hornet's nest. The jackal brings all his friends to tea the bear, but then they discover he is not actually dead. One day two crows come and steal her last drying beans. The old woman is very angry at them, and tells them to 'eat her shit' as she throws stones at them. Because she now has no food the woman dies. When she comes to the afterlife the crows are waiting for her. She is hungry in the afterlife, so the crows offer her the peas that they took. In the morning, the old man says that it is not their horse, and his mill gave birth to it. The brothers enlist the help of the jackal, who uses clever a clever trick to make the old man admit the horse is not his. This story features in the picture book compilation.
