Stamped: Mission Villeminot, Territoires de Paouasie et de Nouvelle Guinee -- From: J. Villeminot 212 bis Bd Pereire Paris, To: Professor Elkin University of Sydney. Telefolmin, Middle Sepik, Bird of paradise song -- Reel no. 3 & 4 sep by blue strip (not full - large reel). These are two reels in one separated by the blue blank strip. Telefolmin, Middle Sepik, Bird of Paradise Songs. 1. Eliptamine women singing. 2. A few of the Eliptamine men's ritual songs. (We do not know the significance of these songs. The women retire as soon as the men start to sing.) 3. Big Sing Sing at the village of Drolingam 20/11/60 at approx 1am. The ceremony commenced about 11pm and finished around dawn. Nearly 300 people were present. (Separation of two reels) MIDDLE SEPIK: JAPANAU (Small village three miles on the right bank of the Sepik downstream from Burui). 1. Duo of long sacred ceremonial flutes (Lasting 10 minutes). 2. Forest sounds and the song of the bird of Paradise.; Item contains instrumental music.
