He was employed by two ladies of the Royal Family of Russia to travel with them from St. Petersburg through Europe to Rome, etc. , and back. He studied homeopathy, or rather that system of curing diseases, under Hahnemann (a German) , the originator of that system, and was remarkably successful in effecting cures. He was employed as doctor for the children by the Duchess of Devon-shire. He wrote the first book in the English language on homeopathy, and the doctors were so offended at it that they persecuted him out of the country.
